Sunlight in your eyes

Sunlight in your eyes,
you were holding me up in the air,
sang me upon the trembling candles
looking in my eyes
Sunlight in your eyes.

Kisses softly put on my lips,
smiles quietly shining on your face,
tunes gently you were singing to my ears
it was Sunlight in your eyes.

GQ

GQ is another bar known as bear bar along with Lovestar and barcode.

Though all the gay bars in Seoul is blown away by Worldcup fever, GQ is still busy with crowd. Guess it's because of its big wall screen displaying soccer game.

As a gay bar, it's an average class of a cocktail bar. If you're interested meeting local bear, just give it a try.

Also it gives you free wifi connection and if your iPhone runs out of battery, kindly ask barmen to recharge it.

Location information is included in the below link. It's on the 2nd floor.

Enjoy your gay night out in Seoul :-)

Barcode

I revisited a bar called 'Barcode' after a long while which used to be known as a bear bar with nice atmosphere.

Back then, this bar was the only place providing free wifi to its customers though there're a few more these days.

Barcode after a while looks exactly the same as it was. But nothing more special than any other bars.

Check the location information below included in this post if you ever interested in giving a visit. It sits on a 2nd floor and its door is hidden between two buildings.

This year, it's on from June 2 through June 12. Why don't you go out and mix with them?

For more details, visit its website. Enjoy! ;-)

Bar Hue in Gangnam

Here's a good news to gays staying near Gangnam area, which is one of the busiest district in Seoul.

A bar which is called 'Hue' is newly opened about a week ago nearby Yeoksam metro station. Though Gangnam area is packed up with tons of fancy restaurants and bars, there hasn't been no such place for gays other than a couple of saunas. Now if you're looking for a beer or whiskey or wine in a friendly gay atmosphere in Gangnam, Hue is a place you should be headed to.

They serve whiskey, cognac, wine, bubbly, beers and non alcohol drinks. A bit strange that they don't have any cocktail.. Price looks moderate whereas this bar Hue is clean, a bit posh and spacious enough.

They say all staffs here speak English so feel free to say hello to them. It opens from 7 pm through 5 am so just drop by anytime you want.

Hue is located on the 2nd floor of a building which has a significant signboard of 'JJang PC club' and the building's location is as follows; 37.506175,127.035336

Copy/Paste the numbers into the google map and it'll shows where it is.

You might bump into me having a drink here since I work near this area.

Enjoy gay Seoul!

Bar Moro in Jongro

I'm at a new bar that's newly opened. This small two stories bar serves simple cocktails, whiskey and soju with side dishes .

Price is reasonable and staffs one of who has run another bar years ago are friedly enough.

Location is right across the street from bar Escape.

A couple of tables are busy for now with guys in early 30s.

Will keep posting about more information. Looks good so far ;-)

It is the location of bar Escape accoring to my iPhone. Check its location information below.

Bar Escape is located on 2nd floor. Exit no.4 of Jongro-3-ga metro station (No.5 line) could be a good starting point for your navigation to this bar. ;-)

Bar Escape

Escape is another cocktail bar in Jongro-3-ga. it's like a clone of bar Blood G yet it's atmosphere is younger and a bit mire trendier. Martini and other cocktails are nice and over the weekend it looks like being crowded in general.

This is one of a few bars where English is spoken though it's now as widely as in Itaewon.

Its location is tagged to this posting so check it on your map app. This bar sits on the second floor of its building.

Happy queer night out though it's snow raining in Seoul! ;-)

After trying out 79 bar once more

Dropped by 79 bar, relatively new Soju bar in Jongro-3-a, twice for research and found out it's not as satisfactory as anticipated. Mostly busy yet maybe that's why I couldn't expect nicer service nor foods there.

After my first visit there, I expected it to get any better.. yet didn't. Previously I wrote this place might be good for drinking alone but it's likely that there are better Soju place for the time in your own.

I will find more gay Soju place for Soju fans out there and will write about 'Whee' soon, one of the famous gay Soju place in Jongro.

Ciao.

Top gay iPhone Apps

Here's an interesting review of iPhone apps for LGBT. How many of them do you have on your iPhone if you're using it? Grindr is definitely my favorite. Also other types of location-based apps interest me as well. Should give'em a try!

If I build one for your gay night life in Seoul, would you be willing to install? :-)

Accommodation; IP Boutique hotel in Itaewon

If you're looking for a boutique hotel in Itaewon, there's a one which newly opened recently - IP Boutique hotel.

Location is perfect because it's close enough that you can walk to many gay bars and clubs in Itaewon yet not too close so you could relax in a relatively quite atmosphere. Also its neighborhood offers variety of exotic restaurants such as Korean, Japanese, Thai, Turkish, Greek, Mexican and India.. or more. You just name it.

Its website says a single room costs around less than USD200 per night. For more details, visit its websites though most of the contents are Korean. You may inquire to receptionist by email.

Clubbing in Itaewon

I'm going to share some of the experiences in Itaewon.

Itaewon is a one of two famous gay streets in Seoul which is packed up with lots of non-Koreans and Korean gays enjoying hip clubbing. One good thing is English is widely spoken here.

Since I'm not a big fan of clubbing , I've been away from the neighborhood for the time being but recently my young energetic friends had me spend some time there and I'd like to share the list of most crowded clubs in Itaewon I've witnessed.

1. Pulse
Definitely, it's the most crowed club in Itaewon. Celebrities appear there sometimes. Open at 2am. Cover is krw10,000. Just go, dance and hook up with young charming gays.

2. Queen
This lounge bar turn into a club in the midnight. I sensed guys come here for drinks and dancing until Pulse opens. No cover fee.

3. Eat me
This bar is located right in front of Queen. Four or five tables and counter. Very friendly staffs here and drinks are good. My favorite staff there is a lady called Lindsay(spelling might be wrong) who laughs a lot and super friendly.

4. B One
Sadly no chance to get in here yet my friend told me this bar is super crowded, which is easily understood if you look at the long queue out of the bar.

5. Almaz
This cocktail bar is relatively quiet and hidden in an alley so if you aren't in the mood for dancing shoulder to shoulder, this bar could be a good option for you.

I'll get the location of each of them later so stay tuned ;-)

Happy gay night out in Seoul!

Thanks to guys on Grindr

It looks like this blog is being known more (though it's slow) thanks to guys on Grindr.

Today I got a message from a guy on Grindr that he showed this blog to his foreign friends, which I truly appreciate.

I couldn't say thank you to him owing to the instability of Grindr on iPhone so I say 'Thank you' here.

Happy gay night out on Friday to you all!! ;-)

Sponsoring party with Chingusai

Chingusai, one of the Korean gay activists' community is going to throw a fund-raising party on this coming Saturday; 27 Feb. 2010

Cover fee is krw20,000 and free snacks and drinks will be provided from 6pm-10pm.

As some official (boring) agenda is planned for about 30 minutes from 6pm, would better to visit later around 8~9 pm if you prefer having fun in more relaxed atmosphere.

Venue is '5번출구', meaning 'metro exit no.5' and reading like 'O-Beon-Chool-Gu'. It's a bar located on the 3rd floor of the building where 'Blood G' resides on its 4th floor.

Here's the link to the notice from Chingusai.

Accommodation; Hotel Crown in Jongro-3-ga

I got an email from a guy planning to visit Seoul in a couple of months, asking me which hotel is the best to book a room at in terms of accessibility to Korean gay culture and budget.

There are some nice hotels between Itaewon and Jongro such as Grand Hyatt, Westin Chosun which are a bit pricy. So I recommended staying in a hotel sitting in the heart of either of Itaewon or Jongro and jumping onto bus, metro or taxi heading to the other one, instead of staying 'in-between'.

In Jongro-3-ga street , there are lots of newly built budget motels which attract young couples in general whether they are gay or straight. Some of them are very famous but mostly they don't have English websites (though receptionist there could speak English) so it won't be that easy for visitors to make a reservation there.

So here's a more decent hotel in the center of Jongro-3-ga where you could book a room 'ONLINE'!

'Hotel Crown' provides accessibility to many gay bars nearby as well as metro station of no.1, no.3 and no.5. I can't tell the quality of service and room facilities since I've never stayed there. Still it's a good thing to have one more option to look at.

Here's the link.

79 Bar

This soju bar was being crowded when I visited 79(Chill-Goo) bar with a frend. Most of customers looked like being in their mid twenties to mid thirties.

Not so small but couldn't call this bar spacious at all. It may host three tables and seven people at the counter.

Japanese fish salad was never satisfactory but it's a place for drinking, not a restaurant anyway.

Bar owners were friendly enough but I doubt that this bar would compete with Whee or Appeal which are most crowded gay soju bars in Jongro-3-ga.

Just 79 bar might be good for anyone who enjoys drinking alone because - can't say why but - atmosphere there was making me feel comfortable.

Will add its location later.

Love Star

I dropped by this nice looking bar last night with my friend.

Well it was my first visit there during weekdays. Unlike its glamour over the weekend, the atmosphere last night was a bit classy or so 90's thanks to ceaseless playback of music videos from late 20th centuries. Yet I kind of liked it cuz it helped me to address lots of topics for conversation with my friend.

And what I noticed there was that they serve bitters for beer like 'Jagermeister'. As far as I know, it's one of the few bars where you could sip 'Jager-Beer' in Jongro-3-ga. I had to choose tequilla or scotch instead whenever I crave things like that.

So if you're a fan of Jagermeister and bears, why not giving a try to Love Star?

Lately in Jongro-3-ga

From my recent hanging out in Jongro-3-ga, I feel like updating the list of popular gay bars since there haven't been an update for a while.

Some of them were introduced earlier and some of them are newly opened.

First, Blood G and Friends are still being crowded. Blood G is a bit more local and Friends is constantly attracting customers but in general.. both are good. I've encountered western guys there, which is not very usual considering the low population of western guys in Jongro-3-ga. Guess western guys like those cocktail bars.

And Whee, famous soju place is still packed up with guys, especially kids.

There are two more promising cocktail bars; Escape and Lovestar.

Escape is just similar to any other bars but thanks to the personal network of the bar owner, generally crowded. Lots of gays, what else could be better to gays? Drink is ok.

Lovestar is a bit more specifically targeting bears. Hidden in the alley, it has nice terrace table and fancy ineterior. I prefer sitting at the terrace table when the weather is good though it's too open.

Lastly there opened a new soju place; 79 called 'Chill-Goo'. Cofounders, longtime good friends, were born in 1979 which is why. I don't have any more information but this but will drop by soon and post sone more details on it.

Ciao.
